Elevator going up

I notice that gas prices in C-U have jumped 20 cents (in two 10-cent increments) over the past two days.

Why? Anyone got an explanation?

And can anyone explain while these increases seem to affect every station in town almost in unison?

$2.39.9? May be time to dust off the old Schwinn.

And so it goes

There was an article in Bloomington-Normal's Pantagraph last week, which talked about how gas prices in B-N had hit an all-time high of $2.45 a gallon. This was blamed on a breakdown at the Exxon/Mobil refinery near Joliet. So, I've been wondering if it's also been causing C-U's spike, as well (if it's the regional refinery).

The article was curious, in that it sort of trailed-off as to when Exxon/Mobil expected the refinery to be repaired. They suddenly started talking about how gas prices would come back down after the Labor Day holiday, which doesn't really address the causality between the refinery breakdown and the rise in local gas prices.

It's price gouging and collusion. It's been happening for years and I'm sick of it...My next car will be a gas/electric hybrid for that reason.

Oh, I dunno ... could it perhaps have something to do with this?
